Fans go wild as HBO drops first look at The Last of Us television series

We get to see Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal in action for the very first time as Ellie and Joel.

HBO has dropped the first teaser trailer for The Last of Us television adaptation.

The 30-second clip shows Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in several locations in this post-apocalyptic world.

Bella's character Ellie says to Joel (Pascal): "Everybody I've cared for has either died or left me."

A statement from someone so young would normally be fairly chilling, but Joel quips back saying: "You have no idea what loss is."

Ooooft.

People have understandably gone wild over the short clip as it looks to be incredibly similar to the video game that it's based off.

One person wrote: "The Last of Us looks incredible. HBO was always gold standard for series."

Another added: "I SPEAK FOR EVERYONE WHEN I SAY WE WILL BE WATCHING!!!!!"

A third said: "Never played the game but simply knowing Pedro Pascal is the lead means it’s automatically my new favourite show and gonna bang."

It's the first time we've seen the duo in action since HBO fed us a morsel of content with the first still from the TV show.

The image shared to social media showed the pair looking out onto an open field with a small airplane crashed into the hill above them.

If you're unfamiliar with the plot of the game, which was released in 2013, it follows a young girl called Ellie as she forms a relationship with hardened doomsday survivor Joel to get out of the dangerous quarantine zone.

Joel, who knows a thing or two about keeping himself alive in the post-apocalypse landscape, must get Ellie outside the zone because it is thought that she might hold the key to a cure for the pandemic that destroyed the USA.

There were two video games based around this story, both of which received incredibly high reviews when they were released.

The first game has a 95 rating on Metacritic, while the sequel is sitting on a comfortable 93.

Craig Mazin, who cut his teeth on the wildly successful Chernobyl, has been called on to create the TV show, alongside the game's director, Neil Druckmann, who will help to pen the series.

Mazin is thought to be a huge fan of the video game, which will obviously help.

Carolyn Strauss and Naughty Dog CEO Evan Wells will also act as executive producers.

The first episode of the show will be released some time next year, which will seem like an eternity for diehard fans.

Hopefully HBO keeps feeding us some juicy content to keep us excited.
