Brisbane theatre-goers will finally get the chance to be in the room where it happens, with Hamilton set to open in 2023.

Hamilton is a Tony, Grammy, Olivier and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical about one of America's founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton.

Performances will be getting underway from January 27 at Brisbane's Lyric Theatre, after wrapping up its Melbourne run at Her Majesty's Theatre in Melbourne on January 15.

Australian Producer Michael Cassel said: “We are ecstatic to be bringing Hamilton to Brisbane and to share this brilliant production with even more Australians.

"Queensland fans have been waiting so patiently and it will have been absolutely worth it when our talented cast heads north, bringing the revolution to the sunshine state."

The show's creator Lin-Manuel Miranda spoke to ABC News Breakfast's Michael Rowland about the production.

“I’m well aware that most shows are lucky enough to play Melbourne or play Sydney, and the fact that we get to go to Brisbane is a real treat and I’m really excited,” said Miranda.

“And that’s really thanks to the Australian audience, so I’m really grateful.”

The Brisbane show will see the show’s Australian cast take to the stage once again, with the latest addition being Brisbane-born Sami Afuni, who joins as Hercules Mulligan.

Miranda said: “I know that from anecdotal evidence that the Australian cast are like rock stars in Australia, and I can't wait to see what they do next."

So, Brisbanites, don’t throw away your shot.

Tickets for the Brisbane season go on sale Monday September 12, with pre-sale tickets available from 10am, Monday September 5.
