House of Dragon actor who plays 'most hated character' has a very famous dad

The House of the Dragon actor who plays the character fast becoming this show’s most hated has a very famous father, it turns out.

In fact, he has a few family members who are kind of a big deal, too - including a veteran sci-fi star as a grandfather.

WARNING: CONTAINS HOUSE OF THE DRAGON EPISODE SIX SPOILERS

With the latest episode of House of the Dragon leaping forward in time by 10 years, some of the younger cast have been replaced by a wave of new stars.

Along with Rhaenyra and Alicent now being played by Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke, respectively, other characters that we last saw toddling around in King’s Landing have now become... well, wanking teenagers, in the case of Aegon.

Aegon, who is the eldest son of Viserys and Alicent, spends episode six training aggressively against Rhaenyra and Laenor’s kids and winding his own brother up - presenting Aemond with a ‘dragon’ of his very own, which is actually just a pig with fake wings tied to its back. BURN!

He also chooses to masturbate butt-naked out of the window of his room, only to get rudely interrupted by his mother storming in to give him a pep talk about his right to the throne, somehow brushing aside the NSFW moment she walked in on.

Naturally, all of this didn’t make him the most likeable of people, with many viewers comparing him to – you've guessed it – none other than Game of Thrones’ boy king Joffrey Baratheon.

After the series jumped forward a decade, Aegon is now portrayed by 20-year-old Ty Tennant, whose previous credits include Tolkein and Doom Patrol.

He also previously appeared in the Doctor Who special The Five(ish) Doctors, alongside fellow House of the Dragon star Matt Smith in 2013.

And, as you may have guessed from the recognisable surname, his father is also a big name on screen.

Yep, Tennant is the adoptive son of actor David Tennant, who married the young actor's mum Georgia (nee Moffatt) in 2011.

As well as having famous parents - his mum also being an actor who has featured in Doctor Who, The Sandman, The Bill and Where The Heart Is, among others - Tennant is the grandson of actors Peter Davison and Sandra Dickinson.

Of course, Davison is well-known as playing the fifth incarnation of the titular time lord in the Doctor Who franchise, meaning the family's ties with the sci-fi show really do run deep.

As for House of the Dragon, later in the series, Aegon is due to be played by Tom Glynn-Carney, 27, who also stars in Steven Knight’s forthcoming BBC series SAS: Rogue Heroes.

We'll just have to wait and see if Aegon ends up succumbing to Alicent's pressures after she warned that his life would be in danger if Rhaenyra becomes queen - especially as, according to his mum, he should be the true ruler. Nothing like a pushy smother to hype you up, eh?

UK viewers can catch House of the Dragon on Sky Atlantic and NOW, while the show will be available in the US on HBO and HBO Max.
