As part of the celebration of Fast X releasing in cinemas around the world today (May 18), you might want a refresher on everything that has happened in the nine-movie franchise.

The plot jumps all over the place, so if you don't want to watch the latest instalment and being that person who keeps asking questions then you should watch it in the following order.

The Fast and the Furious (2001)

Ah yes, the OG flick starring a fresh-faced Paul Walker, Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez.

It's the first time we meet Dominic Toretto (Diesel), who enjoys the adrenaline rush of street car racing and his fans treat him like a king.

But, after coming head to head with a gang leader, Dom decides to take Brian (Paul Walker), a newcomer to street racing, under his wing.

Unbeknownst to Dom, Brian is really an undercover LAPD officer.

Universal Pictures

2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)

This film focuses on Brian, now an ex-police officer who relocates from Los Angeles to Miami to start a new life.

Here, he becomes involved in the street-racing scene in his new city, and it's the first time Tej, played by rapper Ludacris and Roman (Tyrese), make their appearance in the franchise.

Fast & Furious (2009)

Ok, Walker and Diesel are back for this one.

This time, Dom is forced to come out of hiding after a loved one is brutally murdered.

So, he heads to Los Angeles and enlists the help of former ex-cop Brian to find the one responsible for the killing.

Fast Five (2011)

This is also the first time we meet Dwayne Johnson as the extremely terrifying DEA Agent Luke Hobbs.

This film follows Dom and his crew planning a massive heist to buy their freedom while in the sights of a powerful Brazilian drug lord.

Fast & Furious 6 (2013)

This flick is about six months after Fast Five, with a post-credits scene that introduces Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw, who would later go on to have his own spinoff.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)

Ok, this one mixes the whole franchise up.

Here we have an entirely new cast in international waters.

Tokyo Drift is actually set between Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7.

While there producers did not plan for this, there are some loopholes, but accept it and just enjoy the presence of Bow Wow.

Furious 7 (2015)

Acclaimed director James Wan (creator of The Conjuring universe) takes the reins with the film, which takes place a year after Fast & Furious 6 and slightly overlaps with the end of Tokyo Drift.

The Fate of the Furious (2017)

This flick marks a new chapter in the franchise.

Dom and Letty are finally married, and Brian and Mia retire with the rest of the crew exonerated.

They all finally experience some normalcy until a mysterious character named Cipher shows up and convinces Dom to betray the family.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)

It's not actually certain where this film takes place, but it marks the first spinoff in the Fast universe.

In this buddy comedy action film, Luke Hobbs (Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Statham) plot to take down Brixton Lore (Idris Elba), a cybernetically enhanced terrorist threatening the world with a deadly virus.

F9 (2021)

Dom Toretto is living the quiet life off the grid with his family; however, he has to confront the sins of his past to save those he loves most.

The crew reunite and must the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they've ever seen.

And yes, they end up in space.

Well, there you have it. These are the films to watch in order and where to binge them before heading to the cinemas to watch Fast X.
