Hugh Jackman shares Wolverine training picture as he takes on 6000 calories a day

Hugh Jackman shares Wolverine training picture as he takes on 6000 calories a day

The Logan actor has opened up about his training regime, as he reprises the role of Wolverine in Deadpool 3

Hugh Jackman has shared photos of his intense training regime for Deadpool 3, with the actor consuming over 6,000 calories per day as he bulks up for the film.

Whilst his character may possess mutant powers, sadly Jackman does not, with the X-Men star instead training ‘the old-fashioned way’ as he reprises his role as Wolverine.

He has even been teasing co-star Ryan Reynolds, as they prepare for the physically demanding film – which will be released next year.

Taking to Instagram, Jackman shared a ‘work-in-progress’ photo of himself as he trains for the iconic role.

Jackman later showed off his shredded biceps in a separate post, as the Van Helsing actor taunted Reynolds in his caption.

He wrote: “He’s only 46. I’m older. But it’s not a competition.”

However, the teasing was mostly harmless with the pair often exchanging banter over social media as their bromance has continued to blossom over the years.

It’s only increased over the course of their preparations for Deadpool 3, which will see Jackman return as the metal clawed mutant after what had been his final appearance in 2017’s Logan.

After all, what is a little friendly competitiveness between friends?

The actors are such good mates that Jackman regularly appeared in adverts for Reynolds' Aviation Gin brand, with the Deadpool actor routinely ripping into the Aussie.

Jokes aside, Jackman’s training regime is no laughing matter.

The veteran action hero has been consuming over 6,000 calories per day to fuel his training regime, as he prepares for his return as Wolverine.

As a rule of thumb, most adults should consume around 2000 calories depending on their fitness levels.

It shows the commitment Jackman has made to the role, as he refuses steroids and insists on working out the ‘old fashioned way.’

Whilst on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he promised to be ‘bigger than ever’ and spoke about his fitness regime and strict diet.

“No, I love my job. And I love Wolverine. I got to be careful what I say here, but I had been told anecdotally what the side effects are of that. And I was like, ‘I don’t love it that much.’ So no, I just did it the old school way,” he told viewers.

Continuing, he joked about the amount of chicken he’d consumed as he adopted a clean eating diet.

“I tell you, I’ve eaten more chickens — I’m so sorry to all the vegans and vegetarians and to the chickens of the world,” he quipped, adding: “Literally the karma is not good for me. If the deity has anything related to chickens, I’m in trouble.”
