Jenifer Lopez, or 'J.Lo', is set to release a Netflix documentary following her glitzy career in showbiz. Directed by Amanda Micheli, it is aptly named Halftime after Lopez’s killer performance at the Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show in February 2020.

Throughout her life in the public eye, Lopez has developed a tough skin to deal with the multitude of media criticisms that she has been branded with. Yet, in this documentary viewers should expect to see an unusually intimate and vulnerable side to Lopez. It offers a rare glimpse into her heavily protected private life and her rise to stardom from her Bronx upbringing to her glamorous life in Los Angeles.

When is it being released?

The documentary will be released on 14 June 2022 on Netflix. It will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier that month.

The festival takes place every spring in New York City and plays host to a variety of film, music, and art installations.

Given that Lopez was born in New York’s Bronx neighbourhood, it feels right that her intensely personal documentary will premiere in her city of birth.

Halftime Trailer:

Truthfully, the trailer is gripping. It begins with suspenseful high key music distilling in the background followed by Lopez directing her crew about something to do with “getting off with the step”, whatever that means.

Whilst the initial running commentary lacks coherence, the stellar choreography, upbeat music and the enigmatic persona that is Jenifer Lopez more than makes up for it. Besides, a trailer doesn’t need to be sensical, it just needs to have enough intrigue to rope viewers in. So long as the film has something substantial to say or a point to be made—which will presumably be about the trials and tribulations of being an A-list celebrity—then this documentary is likely to be a success.
