As of 2022, Jim Carrey has an estimated net worth of $185m, or £148m, according to Parade, and if you ask him, he’s perfectly content leaving it that way, as he recently announced his retirement from acting. This will be sad news to his fans and those who fondly remember his string of comedy classics, but Jim Carrey says he’s ready to ride off into the sunset in pursuit of the “quiet life”. 

The news came as a surprise to some, but Carrey has given clues about his retirement before. While chatting with the Hollywood Reporter in 2018, he said he was stepping out of the limelight. “I didn’t like what was happening, the corporations taking over and all that,” he said. 

Well known for his high energy slapstick act, Carrey first gained recognition in 1990. However, he gained his first taste of great success when The Mask became a massively successful hot property, grossing $352m on a $23m budget.

Over the next two decades Carrey grew into one of the highest-paid actors in the world, frequently being paid $20m+ per one of his films.

A quarter-century after its release, Carrey reprised his classic, zany 1996 Cable Guy character Chip in a Verizon ad, for a 60-second spot promoting Verizon’s 5G in-home and business services. 

However, Carrey says that he once came close to breaking off from his acting and entertainment profession as a result of his private life, fight with depression and the pressure of stardom.
