What Is J.K. Rowling's Net Worth In 2022?
In 2022 it was reported that J.K Rowling’s net worth is estimated at a staggering $1 Billion, according to Celebrity Net Worth. She is one of only five self-made female billionaires, and is the richest author to have ever lived.
J.K Rowling was born in July 1965, in South Gloucestershire. Her real name is Joanne Rowling, however she chooses to write under a pen name (which the whole world is familiar with): J.K Rowling. She attended University of Exeter where she took French and Classics. Rowling also taught English when she migrated to Portugal in 1991 whilst becoming a secretary and researcher for Amnesty International.
It was in 1995 when her venture into writing really began, as Rowling finishing her first instalment of the Harry Potter series. However, after submitting her manuscript to twelve publishers, all of whom rejected it , her career began to look like it may never take off. Finally, to Rowling’s delight, it was Bloosbury publishing who picked up her novel and gave it the green light, publishing Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone in 1997 with an initial print run of 500 copies. After this, the hype for her series never slowed down, earning her fame and fortune for writing the other 6 "Harry Potter" fantasy novels, which have sold 500 million copies since debuting in 1997.
Rowling capitalised on the books’ success by helping to produce the multi-billion dollar 8 part film series, which created merchandising opportunities and even led to theme parks being created. In a given year, J.K. earns an average of $50 – $100 million from her various endeavours, which is quite the change for someone who began writing the series as an unemployed, single mother living on welfare.
Rowling's film and book series have earned her various different awards and titles across the years, and she herself has donated at least $150 million to charitable causes. J.K Rowling lives comfortably in either her £4.5 million Georgian house in Kensington or her £2 million home in Edinburgh.
