Johnny Depp Spends £50k On Curry In Birmingham Curryhouse

Johnny Depp Spends £50k On Curry In Birmingham Curryhouse

The actor enjoyed a big meal at the restaurant amid his tour with Jeff Beck

Johnny Depp racked up a staggering five-figure bill in a curry house in Birmingham as he continues to tour the UK alongside guitarist Jeff Beck.

I'm sure there are a few of us who would love nothing more to spend huge amounts of money on curry, but even at our hungriest it would take some real effort to rack up a bill of even a few hundred pounds, let alone thousands.

Obviously, Depp didn't purchase thousands of pounds worth of curries to scoff himself, but instead was joined by Beck and around 20 others as they took over the Varanasi restaurant on Sunday (5 June).

It's the latest place the star has been spotted as he continues his gigs with Beck, which he began playing after the conclusion of his defamation case last week.

As well as tucking into a meal which included butter chicken, paneer tikka masala, lamb karahi, king prawn bhuna and an abundance of rice, popadoms and naans, the group enjoyed cocktails and Rosé Champagne after arriving at the restaurant at around 7pm.

Mohammed Hussain, Operations Director of Varanasi, told the MailOnline the restaurant had a call 'out of the blue' that afternoon in which they learned Depp wanted to visit the restaurant.

"I was shocked and at first, I thought it might have been a wind up," Hussain said.

"But then his security team arrived, checked out the restaurant and we let them have the whole place because we were concerned that he might be bothered by other diners."

Hussain described the actor as being a 'very lovely, down to earth bloke' who spent time chatting with the restaurant's staff members as well as their friends and family members.

He agreed to pose for pictures with his fans, and his behaviour prompted Hussain to say: "You would never have thought that he was such a big star."

"He had a lot of time for us all," he added.

Hussain told the Mail staff 'had to promise that [they] would not reveal the final bill', but made clear 'money was no issue'.

It's understood the bill came to around £50,000, with Hussain confirming it was 'easily in five figures' and adding: "We made more money from Depp’s visit than we did from our busiest night of the week, which is a Saturday when we have around 400 diners."

"In addition to the food, there was champagne, wine and all kinds of drinks being downed. Depp and his group had a great time. They loved the food, the ambience of the restaurant and the service that we provided. It was a real honour to have him here," he added.

Though Depp was obviously more than happy to spend time at the restaurant, Hussain said at one point the star 'wanted a little break from everybody' and went to join the operations manager in his office; a situation which has left him still '

pinching' himself.
