Johnny Depp has said there is one reason alone that he'd return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise after previously saying he never wanted to come back to the role.
When people talk about Pirates of the Caribbean there's loving discussion of the first three movies, and some acknowledgement of the latter two.
The most recent movie, Dead Men Tell No Tales, released in 2017 and ever since then the franchise has been a bit lost at sea with Margot Robbie's project eventually sinking and talk of a full reboot coming and going like the tide.
Depp said in court that even a fee of '$300 million and a million alpacas' couldn't convince him to come back, but it sounds like he's walked back that stance as there is one condition he'd do it under.

The actor is on a press tour for Ebenezer at the moment, and when asked if he'd ever return to the role of Captain Jack Sparrow he said there was only one way he'd do it.

"If things are exactly where they need to be with regard to how they are going to top off the Pirates franchise, the only involvement I really want to have, truly, is just to send them off on a better note," Depp said of what would bring him back, adding that he'd be back if Jerry Bruckheimer was involved.
"I will go to work with Bruckheimer tomorrow for anything. Doesn’t matter, if it’s Jerry, I trust him. We have a deep friendship."
The actor's comments appeared to acknowledge that the Pirates of the Caribbean movies didn't end on the strongest instalment and could have gone out on more of a high, as could Depp's character, but if he and Bruckheimer could get together then Jack Sparrow might get a send-off.
Last year Bruckheimer told Entertainment Weekly last year that he'd talked to Depp about the possibility of one last ride on the pirate ship, and he thinks the actor would be willing to do it 'if he likes the way the part's written'.
He'd said that a new Pirates movie would likely still be a reboot, but hoped that Jack Sparrow could make some sort of appearance.

Speaking last year he said that the reboot script was still in development and they 'haven't quite gotten there yet, but we're close'.
More recently he told Deadline that he was still in talks with Depp about putting something together, saying: "We’re talking to Johnny, we’re working on a screenplay and hopefully we can get this done."
Bruckheimer is clear that if the call lies with him then Depp would be back in a future Pirates movie.
He said: "It's a reboot, but if it was up to me, he would be in it.
"I love him. He's a good friend. He's an amazing artist and he's a unique look. He created Captain Jack. That was not on the page; that was him doing a little Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards. That was his interpretation of Jack Sparrow."
