Jonah Hill was hospitalised after snorting fake cocaine every day for seven months during the filming of The Wolf of Wall Street.

Hill played Donnie Azoff, who is loosely based on the real-life stock broker and convicted fraudster Daniel Porush, in the 2013 film alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort.

For those who have seen the flick, you’ll know that drug taking features heavily - and I do mean, heavily.

So much so that poor Hill ended up being hospitalised with bronchitis from snorting so much vitamin D powder, which was used as the on-set fake cocaine.

Appearing on US talk show Any Given Wednesday with Bill Simmons in 2016, he revealed: "I did so much fake cocaine in Wolf Of Wall Street I got bronchitis for three weeks. I had to be hospitalised.

"It's vitamin powder but it doesn't matter because if you ingest that much matter into your lungs, you will get very sick.

"We were literally doing fake coke for, like, seven months, every day. I never had more vitamin D in my entire life; I could have lifted a car over my f****** head."

Opening up about how he got into character, he added: "It's interesting pretending to be on drugs.

"I'll use music. I'll make a playlist for every scene, so I'll try to make, like, music that [makes me feel] jittery and chaotic... and then just drink a ton of coffee and Red Bull."

Despite putting so much into the character that he literally ended up in the hospital, Hill has previously revealed he was probably paid a lot less than people think to take on the role.

The 39-year-old star admitted that he was so excited to work with the legendary director Martin Scorsese, that he was happy to take the minimum amount on offer.

Speaking on The Howard Stern Show back in 2014, he said: "I got to f**king be in a Martin Scorsese movie and I just got nominated for an Oscar.

"I'm tripping out, Howard ... I'm in shock. I'm totally in shock."

He went on: "They gave me the lowest amount of money possible, that was their offer.

"I said, 'I will sign the paper tonight. Fax me the papers tonight.' I want to sign them tonight before they change their mind. I said I want to sign them before I go to sleep tonight so they legally can't change their mind."

Radio host Stern then cut in to clarify if that meant the actor ‘got paid $60,000 (£48,723) for that movie'.

Hill continued: "It was the minimum. I think SAG minimum is something like $60,000 before commissions and taxes.

"Yeah, for an almost seven-month shoot. I would sell my house and give him all my money to work for [Scorsese] ... I would have done anything in the world. I would do it again in a second."
