*Spoiler warning for the latest episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi*

When Disney announced they were buying the rights to Star Wars and making movies again, an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off was top of many fans' wishlists.

Ewan McGregor's portrayal of the Jedi master was considered one of the best things about the prequels and he'd aged gracefully enough to step back into the role.

There was much excitement when the Obi-Wan Kenobi show was announced for Disney+, bringing McGregor back to our screens for more adventures in the period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

Bringing back Obi-Wan appears to have been the right decision as fans are praising the show's latest episode as the best thing Star Wars has ever done on TV.

Obi-Wan Kenobi has shown us a portrayal of the heroic Jedi 10 years on from his climactic battle with Darth Vader on the volcanic planet of Mustafar.

Time has eroded his skills while the rise of the Empire has convinced him to maintain a low profile in his task of watching over a young Luke Skywalker.

However, the capture of Princess Leia calls him back into action, and Obi-Wan is soon forced to confront Vader who is out for revenge against his former master, mostly for hacking off three of his limbs and leaving him to burn alive by a river of lava.

Fans were treated to a fight between Kenobi and Vader in episode three, where it was clear our hero was badly out of practice and clearly outmatched.

However, it's the latest episode which has really sparked joy among Star Wars fans for spectacular battles, tense confrontations and a much-loved flashback to the prequel era.

In it, Empire troops led by Inquisitor Reva assault a refugee base where Kenobi is planning to make an escape, but their attack fails in large part thanks to the Jedi master rediscovering his skills.

Reva is ultimately convinced by Kenobi to betray Vader for his slaughter of the Jedi younglings, but she is no match for the Sith Lord who utterly defeats her without drawing his own lightsaber.

Running throughout the whole episode is a flashback sequence showing a training duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan which mirrors the events of the episode and viewers are absolutely loving it.

Fans have been flooding social media with praise for the episode, with one person commenting: "THAT WAS INCREDIBLE' and another calling Obi-Wan Kenobi episode five 'the best episode yet."

Others couldn't believe the prequel flashback had made it into the show, with someone saying they 'can't believe this is real', let alone happening 17 years after the Star Wars prequels wrapped up.

Some reviewers are calling Obi-Wan Kenobi episode five 'the best episode of Star Wars TV to date', and having watched the episode it's hard to disagree with that statement.

It's high praise considering the quality of The Mandalorian, but it might just be true.

With only one episode left to go, Star Wars fans can hardly wait to see how it all wraps up.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series finale will release on Disney+ on 22 June.
