The singer is currently on the road after kicking off her Chromatic Ball stadium tour last week, starting out in Germany on 17 July before heading to the likes of Sweden, the Netherlands and France.

Twitter user Andrin (@noah3020) was lucky enough to catch Gaga in Dusseldorf last weekend, having inadvertently captured a surreal moment from the audience.

Sharing the clip on Twitter, he wrote: “CONFIRMED: Gaga has an invisible force field that protects her from dangerous objects as shown in the video.

“It’s so weird like.”

In the clip, Gaga can be seen performing on stage when an object is seemingly thrown towards her.

However, as she throws her hand down to her side as part of her dance routine, the item mysteriously changes course, stopping mid-air before dropping to the ground - giving the illusion that a force field had protected her.

The bizarre video soon went viral, racking up 3.7 million views, thousands of retweets and more than 100,000 likes as people tried to work out what on earth was going on.

One person asked: "Did she accidentally just reveal she has magic powers?"

Someone else said: "Lol someone tried to throw something at lady gaga and an invisible shield blocked it."

A third commented: "That’s honestly freaky but iconic at the same time."

When one person questioned whether or not the footage was edited, another replied: “I think someone said there were stage fans and the thing got sucked in the fan.”

One other agreed: "As cool as this is isn’t it probably just a fan lol."

Another person suggested it may have been a material known as 'scrim', which often isn't visible from the audience.

"Typically, it's scrim," they said.

"It's a theatrical mesh in front of the performers. It's used for special effects purposes. This 'scrim' seems especially transparent when backlit.

"If someone threw something heavy enough, it'd probably break through. It's almost impossible to see at times."

Clarifying a few details after the tweet went viral, Andrin said: “This is not edited btw I took the video and didn't even notice it until a few minutes ago.”

He later added: “Not my force field tweet going viral… now people are demonizing gaga… IT'S JUST AN ELECTRIC FAN.”
