The father of Britney Spears has filed official documents to end the pop star's conservatorship.

The legal ruling has been in place for 13 years and was introduced following the 39-year-old's public mental health breakdown.

It's been able to control nearly every facet of the 'Circus' star's life and she has recently spoken out about its cruel restrictions.

Jamie Spears has tabled a petition to the courts, which states: "Recent events related to this conservatorship have called into question whether circumstances have changed to such an extent that grounds for establishment of a conservatorship may no longer exist.

"Ms. Spears has told this Court that she wants control of her life back without the safety rails of a conservatorship. She wants to be able to make decisions regarding her own medical care, deciding when, where and how often to get therapy.

"She wants to control the money she has made from her career and spend it without supervision or oversight.

"She wants to be able to get married and have a baby, if she so chooses.

"In short, she wants to live her life as she chooses without the constraints of a conservator or court proceeding.

"As Mr. Spears has said again and again, all he wants is what is best for his daughter. If Ms. Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr. Spears believes that she should get that chance."

Jamie has already announced his intentions to step down as head of the conservatorship, however now he appears to want the legal ruling torn down altogether.

The patriarch of the Spears family references how Britney's testimony during two recent court appearances was enough to make him want to stop controlling his daughter's life.

He also said the 39-year-old shouldn't have to undergo a new psychological evaluation to prove she is mentally fit to life without a legal guardian.

Britney has previously stated that she would refuse to take a new psych test.

The iconic pop star has also revealed that she wants her father charged with conservatorship abuse and alleged her life and career was ruined as a result of the legal ruling.

Her lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, said they won't leave any stone unturned as they investigate Jamie and others who helped orchestrate the guardianship.
