The lawyer representing Britney Spears in her conservatorship battle has thanked the pop star's biggest fans.

Speaking outside a Los Angeles court, Mathew Rosengart has been overwhelmed by the amount of support from the 39-year-old's fanbase and the effort they go into calling for her freedom.

He said: "It's been a lot of hard work, it's been intense. I'm proud, Britney's proud.

"I think the support of the #FreeBritney movement has been instrumental. To the extent that it allowed my firm to carry the ball across the finish line, I thank them as well."

The comments come after Judge Brenda Penny officially removed Britney's father, James Spears, as the head of her conservatorship, effective immediately.

Rosengart told the court: "She [Britney] wants him out of her life today rather than a lingering and toxic presence. Britney deserves to wake up tomorrow without her father as her conservator."

Certified public accountant John Zabel has been appointed as the temporary conservator.

A hearing date has been set for November 12, which will ultimately decide whether the conservatorship should be remove altogether.

Britney has posted a video of her flying a small prop plane following the massive decision and thanked everyone.

Britney has been recently vocal about wanting Jamie Spears taken off the legal guardianship that has controlled nearly every facet of her life for the past 13 years.

Back in June, she told a court hearing: "My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship, including my management... they should be in jail.

"I've told the world I'm happy and OK. I lied. I am not happy, I can't sleep. I'm so angry, it's insane. And I'm depressed."

Addressing Judge Penny she continued: "Ma'am, I am not here to be anyone's slave. I can say no to a dance move.

"The last time I spoke to you... it made me feel like I was dead. I am telling you again because I am not lying... so maybe you can understand the depth and the degree and the damages... I deserve changes."

Following her testimony, Jamie Spears indicated he would step down as head of the conservatorship because he believed it would be in the best interests of his daughter.

However, Britney's attorney, Mathew Rosengart, has promised to continue investigating Jamie Spears for alleged conservatorship abuse.
