Neve Campbell Walks Away Scream Franchise Over 'Bad Offer' For Sixth Film

Neve Campbell Walks Away Scream Franchise Over 'Bad Offer' For Sixth Film

She's won't be returning as Sidney Prescott after 25 years of involvement in the horror franchise.

Neve Campbell will not return as the iconic Sidney Prescott in the upcoming horror flick Scream 6.

Campbell revealed in a statement she had received too low an offer to appear in the sixth instalment of the hit horror movie franchise, set for release next year.

Campbell expressed her sadness that her time as Sidney Prescott has come to an end in the statement to Variety

"As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream," she said.

"I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise..It's been a very difficult decision to move on."

She then addressed her fans directly.

"To all my Scream fans, I love you. You've always been so incredibly supportive to me," she said.

Campbell added: "I'm forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years."

But this isn't the first time the scream queen has admitted to receiving poor pay from the hit horror series.

The Hollywood star said she 'did alright' following Scream 3, released back in 2000, but didn't get the profit she was promised from the film.

As horror films tend to have smaller budgets when compared to major, cost-gurgling blockbusters, actors are generally incentivised by profit shares once the film has been out for a period of time.

Back in 2020, Campbell sat down with Halloween star Jaime Curtis to discuss all things horror.

"There’s always the promise of back end,” Campbell told Curtis at the time, as per Variety.

"And then, of course, it’s drowned in publicity and costs and all the reasons they say, 'Oh, actually no, we didn’t make the amount of money that we’re claiming we made in all the press, so we don’t have to give you that'," she said.

Scream made a brilliant comeback in 2022 which led to Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media giving the green light to yet another instalment.

The 2022 version of Scream raked in $140 million ($AUD 195 million, £111 million) globally, despite only costing $25 million ($AUD 34 million, £19 million) to produce.

Scream 6 is expected to commence filming in the coming months and is scheduled to hit theatres on May 31, 2023.
