A restaurant on the Sunshine Coast is serving a giant burger - and it's so big, it makes the Big Mac look like child's play.

Rock 'n' roll diner Rick's Garage in Palmwood has been offering a monster of a burger - called Ricks Famous 'Big One' - for eight years now, with people coming from all over the place to tackle it.

Weighing in at a whopping 1.1kg, 'The Big One' has a double serving of beef with bacon, cheese, eggs, lettuce, onion rings, pickles, beetroot, tomato relish and comes in at a cost of $32.

The burger is so big that it requires skewers for support through the middle, with waiters still needing one hand for the paddle underneath and another hand for the steak knife to balance on top.

Ricks Garage and Diner venue manager Jess Da Costa told Escape that the burger has become infamous since it was added to the restaurant's menu nearly a decade ago, and that most who order 'The Big One' actually manage to clear that plate about 80 per cent of the time. Impressive!

"The people who want to take it on are pretty big eaters and are pretty confident. But it definitely beats some people," Da Costa said.

However, if you're planning to take on the eye-watering meal, which patrons are allowed to share, it's worth noting that you're not allowed to add, change or remove any ingredients.

"We're really strict about that," De Costa explained to the publication.

"Some people ask us to take a bit out and we have to say sorry. It's like trying to take a piece of steel out of the Eiffel Tower, the whole thing would collapse."

Along with being the home of the mighty burger, Rick's Garage also hosts the annual TimeWarp Festival, which features a pop-up barber shop and live music, with patrons often rocking up with classic cars and rockabilly get-ups.
