Tones and I has had an incredible 2020. While she would have loved to have been touring all over the world at different music festivals and events, her song 'Dance Monkey' was the second most streamed song on the entire planet.

She followed it up with an EP that attracted a lot of attention and has been invited to perform on major American talkshows.

Which is why some people were shocked to see the Australian star busking on the streets of Melbourne.

Tones and I got her start busking on Melbourne's Bourke Street, on the Gold Coast and in Byron Bay and it looks like she's gone back to where it all began.

Hundreds of people stopped by to see the singing sensation belt out her epically famous 'Dance Monkey' as well as some of her other hits.

She said about the small set: "It was so good to get back to my roots and busk where it all started for me. I'm in music as I love writing & playing live. Busking is as real as it gets and I'm so happy I got to do it again for everyone who has supported me."

The performance was put on by the City of Melbourne in a bid to attract people back to the streets now that the threat of coronavirus has weakened in Victoria.

Deputy Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece said in a statement: "After one of the world's longest lockdowns, it's such a thrill to see a global star performing in Bourke Street Mall.

"As a former busker who has become an international star, Tones And I understands the joy of live music and how it brings people together.

"We want this performance to inspire buskers to come back to our city. We've waived busking fees for until June 2021 because we want hundreds more street performers to help activate our streets."

Tones and I isn't the only artist that has been been spotted belting out a few notes as part of the campaign. They also managed to recruit Daryl Braithwaite, Missy Higgins, Gordi, Mark Seymour, Vika and Linda, the Pierce Brothers and Hayley Mary.
