Lewis Capaldi admits he didn't expect his life to be so sad

The singer didn't expect to feel sad watching his documentary back.

Lewis Capaldi has admitted he didn't expect his life to 'be so sad', and didn't even realise it until he watched his new Netflix documentary.

The 'Forget Me' singer is about to drop his all-access documentary How I'm Feeling Now, which will do a deep dive into his life and career.

But what started out as a fun documentary about his time on tour, quickly turned into an intimate look at Lewis's mental and physical health struggles.

The 26-year-old suffers from Tourette's Syndrome, which has massively impacted his ability to perform.

He has even admitted that making music and performing live is only making his symptoms of the condition worse.

Lewis's struggle with Tourettes, as well as anxiety, are expected to be covered in the highly anticipated Netflix release.

When asked how the documentary came to be, Lewis told The Times: "The producers approached us and I went along with it.

"At the time, I was due to go on all these tours so I said they could come and hang out. Bask in my success, hahaha! I imagined it as a pat on the back, my victory lap."

But when the pandemic hit, the film turned into one about the making of his second album.

Along the line, it grew arms and legs. I didn’t want my family in it. Then it was, 'OK, cool, they can be in it a bit.'

The new documentary drops on Netflix on Wednesday 5 April.

"Then it became a deeper look into aspects of my life that even I wasn’t aware of. In a way, it ended up like my career - it just got away from me."

Speaking about his first reaction to watching the documentary, the 'Someone You Loved' singer joked: "I never knew I was so deep and emotionally intelligent."

He then added: "It is a sad watch. I didn’t expect my life to be so sad."

Elsewhere in the interview, Capaldi confessed that there may come a time when he'll have to 'pack music in' if his condition gets much worse.

"It's only making music that does this to me, otherwise I can be fine for months at a time, so it's a weird situation," he told the publication.

"Right now, the trade-off is worth it, but if it gets to a point where I'm doing irreparable damage to myself, I'll quit."

He added: "I hate hyperbole but it is a very real possibility that I will have to pack music in."

Let's hope it doesn't come to that any time soon!
