Frankie Muniz gives honest answer to fan who asked where Dewey actor has been since show

Whatever happened to the Malcolm in the Middle character?

Frankie Muniz has responded to a question asking just what the hell happened to the actor who played Dewey in Malcolm in the Middle.

Ever since the highly successful sitcom finished in 2006, the show's stars have continued to stay in the spotlight in some capacity.

This is especially true for Hal, aka Bryan Cranston, aka Walter White.

But the same can't be said for Erik Per Sullivan, who portrayed the youngest child of the infamous family.

Despite being a fan favourite character, the world hasn't heard much from the 31-year-old since the show's finale.

With so many people still calling out for updates about what he's up to now, Malcolm France decided to ask Muniz if he could provide some insights - and the 36-year-old star was more than happy to oblige.

"To be honest, I don't know what he's up to," he explained. "I hate to say that because I've talked to him a few times since the show ended.

"I've talked to his parents a lot. When I was in the band, we went and played in the city where he lives and his parents came to the show but unfortunately he couldn't make it.

"So I got to talk to them, and he's been all over doing a lot of different things.

"But one thing I know, some actors or some people just got to do it when they were a kid and then they wanted to experience other things and kind of live a more normal life out of the spotlight.

"I think that's what he wanted to do so good for him."

Yes, it appears Sullivan just wanted to step away from the limelight, which is totally understandable.

But that hasn't stopped fans from hoping for an update, with many pointing out that it seems he started an Instagram page, although this is yet to be verified.

In January 2021, a picture was uploaded to the account showing Sullivan all grown up, and the same goes for a post in April that year.

Despite hundreds of comments asking him to respond, we're yet to hear anything else from the former actor.

Still, here's hoping he's enjoying his life whatever he might be up to today.

In other Muniz news, the Malcolm in the Middle legend revealed a bit of a career change earlier this year too.

In an interview with Dave Moody for SiriusXM NASCAR last month, he announced that he's hoping to join NASCAR's third division next year with an end-goal of hitting the Cup series one day.

"We're talking to a bunch of teams, both in ARCA and Trucks, Xfinity," he said, adding, "I want to be realistic, too.

"Obviously, I haven't done a ton of oval racing. So everywhere I am going to go next year is going to be new.

"So in that same sense I want to move up quickly. I don't want to throw myself completely off the deep end.

"I know in ARCA National, the Trucks Series - it's ultra-competitive. It's not little, local racing, it's the top level of motorsports.

"I want to make sure that I'm ready. I believe that I am. But it's all about kind of putting the best deal together with a Truck ride or ARCA ride.

"I just want to be in a race car, so as much seat time as possible is gonna be key for me the rest of this year and next year just to keep learning and progressing.

"That is the goal is to be in a Truck or doing ARCA National or both."
