Matt Lucas Says He Was 'Thin-Shamed' By Stranger At Football Match

The 48-year-old entertainer previously discussed how he was inspired to 'get fitter' during an appearance on Lorraine last year.

GBBO’s Matt Lucas has revealed he was 'thin-shamed' by a stranger while he watched Arsenal play Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The 48-year-old entertainer previously discussed how he was inspired to 'get fitter' after putting on a 'lot of weight in lockdown' during an appearance on Lorraine last year.

Despite his efforts being applauded by fans, Matt took to Twitter after the game and revealed he was 'thin-shamed' by a fellow football fan.

The Little Britain star tweeted: "Shout out to the lady who stopped me at football today to ask me why i've lost weight and to inform me I look a lot older.

"For the first time in my life, I think i've just been thin-shamed (sic)."

After sharing the encounter, Matt was inundated with messages of support from his social media followers, who complimented him on all his hard work overhauling his lifestyle.

One follower commented: "I get thin shamed when I lose weight and fat shamed when I gain a little. I've come to the conclusion a lot of people just want to drag you down no matter what."

"You look amazing, and most importantly, happy," another responded.

A third wrote: "You look fantastic! Sod the mood hoovers."

“Can’t win can you. Ergh. You look fab. But also, you do you!!!! Lose it or gain it, as long as you’re happy. Happiness is key,” another added.

Matt first spoke about his weight loss during an appearance on Lorraine in 2021.

At the time, the TV star said: "I've lost some weight, I needed to take the edge off, because I put on a lot of weight in lockdown. I just had to do something about it."

To which Lorraine replied: "Yes, just not eat as much and move around a wee bit more, that's kind of what you have to do."

Matt added: "I've still got a bit of a tum, I've got a little bit of a tum, I'm not a skinny Minnie."

The presenter first said he was keen to 'get fit' during lockdown in 2020 after believing he had gained weight.

He said: "The one thing I need to do is get fitter, I have put on a little bit of weight, that’s my next challenge to do a bit more exercise.

"I might have to make a game of it when I go out and exercise to stay out of people's way. I don’t have a garden so I have to find a way to do that."
