Anyone who has watched Game Of Thrones will tell you how violent it is. It comes as no surprise then that Matt Smith picked up a nasty injury when filming the prequel series, House Of The Dragon.

Former Dr Who star Matt Smith is set to play a leading role in the series, and it turns out he was hit in the face when filming.

Speaking at Comic Con 2022, Smith revealed he received an axe to the face. Ouch!

Smith will star as Daemon Targaryen, brother to King Viserys, played by Paddy Considine.

When filming a fight scene with his co-star Fabien Frankel, the actor accidentally hit Matt with an axe.

Frankel will play knight Ser Criston Cole, and he said he regrets ever saying anything about it.

"I really regret saying this because I’ve been asked if I severely injured him," he told the audience of a panel he was speaking on.

"But I did feel at the time, 'God, of all the people that I could have possibly axed in the face, Matt was the worst one."

Never hit the leading man in the face.

The actor was worried that he would be booted off the show due to his mistake: "I was ready for them to [say], 'Matt Smith, is it?' You’re out the show."

Fans will be keeping a keen eye out to try and spot the fight where the injury happened.

Some eagle-eyed viewers think it must have occurred during a combat sequence that has been shown in all three of the official trailers that have been released so far.

See if you can spot it:

Fortunately for Frankel, he was only holding a prop axe at the time, Metro reports.

During the teasers and trailers that we have seen, Daemon fights Criston in a jousting tournament. The pair are shown doing battle, with Daemon wearing a dragon-shaped helmet, the famed sigil of the Targaryens.

Smith was a good sport about the incident and insists there are no hard feelings about the mistake.

He joked: "He chinned me, but it was alright. I lived to fight another day."

The series is set some 200 years before Game Of Thrones, and tells the tale of the Targaryen family and a struggle for power. Smith's character Daemon is furious when his brother, the king, names his daughter Rhaenyra as his successor. With Daemon insisting he is the rightful heir to the throne, something tells us we'll be seeing more than one fight scene for Smith in the series.

House of the Dragon premieres on Sunday, August 21, 2022.
