Rockstar and Remedy are teaming up to remake Max Payne 1 and the sequel Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne.

The news will no doubt be huge for gamers around the world who have been begging for this iconic title to be brought into the modern age.

In a statement that few saw coming, the two companies revealed their intent to remake the two games for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.

Remedy Games highlighted how both games 'left an indelible mark in popular culture' and were 'lauded for their neo-noir atmosphere, groundbreaking storytelling and “bullet-time” gunplay'.

Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games, said: "We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games.

“We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”

Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala, added: “Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same.

"We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”

In the statement, the companies revealed that Rockstar Games will be financing the twin projects and Remedy will take control of development and production.

The latter added the games will 'be in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production'.

They'll be using 'its proprietary Northlight game engine' to bring the latest technology to the story we all know and love.

"Under the agreement, Remedy has a royalty opportunity after Rockstar Games has recouped its development, marketing, and other costs for distributing and publishing the game," the statement said.

No release date has been announced for the two games, so we'll have to sit tight until we get word.
