Gemma Owen took part in Love Island's infamous heart rate challenge

Michael Owen has responded after his daughter took part in the infamous Love Island challenge.

The one challenge on the show that could possibly be a father's worst nightmare took place last night and the former Liverpool footballer was clearly not a fan.

Owen's daughter Gemma, 19, joined this year's series of the hit ITV reality show - which hasn't fallen short of drama.

The international dressage rider opted to take part in the heart rate challenge, where she was was tasked with dressing up in a seductive outfit with the aim of raising the pulses of her partner, Luca, along with the other boys in the villa.

Gemma wore a riding crop in a nod to her love of horses, along with fishnet tights, high heels, a fluffy black thong and a black crop top.

Her father Michael, 42, could barely watch the TV last night as after Gemma gave a series of lap dances.

He simple reacted by tweeting an emoji of a face covering their eyes with their hands.

"Turn the TV off, pal," one fan suggested.

While the Specsavers admin was having a field day and commented: "Want some blackout sunglasses?"

Dominoes Pizza added: "Order a pizza and switch off for sure."

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Michael addressed those who thought that his daughter is too young, and said: "Also, she’s a mature 19. She’s a bit like me in that regard.

"I was playing for Liverpool when I was 17, and having to make friends with 23, 24, 25-year-olds.

"The bottom line is, she’s an adult and I have to trust her to make sensible decisions."

He continued: "That was one of the things she was most worried about, the kissing tasks they get set.

"I didn’t know anything about the show, but the worry was that she’d have to kiss this lad and that lad and the next.

"I was away so didn’t see the first episode, but her mum told me there was a possibility she’d have to do a dance – a lap dance or something – which Gemma would have been uncomfortable about.

"But I guess the longer she is in, the more relaxed she will be about that sort of thing."
