The TikTok algorithm is a strange beast at times, with some amazing videos only having 200 views and some weird and wonderful clips racking up billions.

There are new trends every day, and in the fast-paced world of social media there are some hugely successful creators.

So what is the most viewed TikTok ever? It might surprise you.

What is the most viewed TikTok video ever?

For an app famed for dance routines and lip-synching, the most watched video is a Harry Potter themed illusion video.

Shared by Zach King, it now has an insane view count of 2.2 billion watches.

The video was shared in December 2019.

The 18-second video rapidly went viral at the time and it is still going, years later.

Watch it below:

"They rejected my application to Hogwarts but I still found a way to be a wizard," he captioned it.

King is an American filmmaker and illusionist.

In the hit video, he appears to be flying on a magic broom that many fans of the Harry Potter series will recognise.

Clad in the Hogwarts uniform, King looks like he is flying around a residential street on the broom.

As he comes closer to the camera he "reveals" how the “flying” is done, as a mirror with one trouser leg is shown and his feet on a skateboard appears.

However many think there is CGI or editing involved as the board doesn't look long enough to fully cover his feet or the skateboard, nor is anything reflected in the mirror.

Commenters love the post, and years later are still praising the video.

He now has 69.8 million followers, and has clocked up 894.4 million likes.

His Harry Potter illusion video has 19.7 million likes and more than 500k comments.

One fan asked: "Am I the only one watching this again and again to understand how he did this?"

"No idea how u did this one but it’s cool" admitted another.

Others have been posting updates of the view count over the years.
