Ed Sheeran has quit Twitter after receiving a stream of abuse from online trolls.

Opening up about the constant horrible tweets he receives from people on the site, the singer said it can ruin his day.

He told the Sun: "I've actually come off Twitter completely. I can't read it. I go on it and there's nothing but people saying mean things. Twitter's a platform for that.

"One comment ruins your day. But that's why I've come off it.

"The head-fuck for me has been trying to work out why people dislike me so much."

Shortly after his Glastonbury appearance, the star was forced to explain to his 19.1million followers that he wasn't miming and was actually using a loop station.

He told the paper that he has 'people like my dad' to make sure he stays grounded and has a 'reality check'. He added: "I don't have to have someone calling me a whatever." Yeah, fair enough, mate. Fuck that, sounds like a hassle he could do without.

Ed will still be using his Instagram account, which will tweet out any posts he makes on there.

This isn't the first time the Glastonbury-headliner has taken some time off social media. Back in 2015, he announced he would be taking a break as he was "seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes". He was offline for a year, before coming back shortly before he released Divided.

Other celebrities, including Adele, Stephen Fry and comedian John Bishop, have also previously sacked off social media after receiving abuse from trolls.
