Band left mortified after public proposal at their gig goes horribly wrong in viral footage

The Aussie band said they won't be trying it again for a while

A band were left feeling pretty red-faced after a public proposal on stage at their gig took a turn.

I mean, while some people might love all the attention and eyes on them during the very intimate, personal, life-changing moment, having your partner get down on one knee and confess their love in front of a load of strangers is a nightmare for others.

And that was something one bloke seemed to test out on his partner during a Bootleg Rascal concert in Brisbane, Australia, on Saturday (10 January).

Only, unfortunately for him, it resulted in him finding out that his girlfriend was perhaps more on the ‘don’t propose to me in front of a concert hall of people under a load of spotlights’ side of things.

Making matters worse, and even more public, the moment has now gone viral across social media.

In the video, a concertgoer can be seen up on stage, microphone in hand, as he told the room: “My partner and I came to watch Bootleg Rascal about two, three years ago.”

He then called out: “Jamie, where are you? Can you come up on stage quickly? There she is.”

She seemed a little awkward as she joined him on stage as he held her hand and said: “We saw Bootleg Rascal about two years ago and I thought, you know, they’re our favourite band. I thought today why not… maybe today is the day…”

He then started to get down on one knee, but she was quick to put her hands out, trying to lift him straight back up in protest. Shaking her head, she soon walked off the stage leaving him there, down on one knee in front of the stunned crowd.

Then bizarrely, he only got up when someone came to help him, dressed in a giant inflatable Scooby Doo costume.

Sharing the moment online, Bootleg Rascal wrote: “Not sure we’ll be helping out with another public proposal for a while…”

Now, being a bit cynical, it seems quite plausible this was all a bit of a publicity stunt, given how viral the clip is and that the band added to it: “Anyway here’s our breakup son. Stream ‘Reasons’ x.”

But either way, it’s a very, very awkward moment with fans saying it ‘hurts to watch’.

“That’s so f**king rough,” another put as one said: “When good times turn bad.”

“Please tell us that this is stage,” a third added.

Others, however, said it’s the ‘only correct response to a public proposal’.
