Justin Bieber has been dragged online by some Coachella viewers after they branded his headlining set, weird and a ‘mess’.

Coachella has been bringing attendees all the hits, and a little bit of questionable performances too.

However, social media users have been unsure about whether Justin Bieber fell into the former or latter category after headlining for the first time on Saturday (April 11) after having been absent from the limelight for some time.

The 32-year-old took to Day 2 of this year's festival and delivered a set that people can’t agree on how to feel about.

The ‘Baby’ singer was seen bursting onto the stage wearing shorts, a hoodie and shades as he sang his more recent hits, before throwing in some nostalgic beats like ‘Stay’, and ‘Never Say Never’.

But fans began a scathing commentary during his performance when the singer did something unconventional with the camera, and also when he took a strange approach to strolling down memory lane.

“justin rlly up there headlining coachella w/ just a mic & his macbook??,” wrote one online commenter as the Canadian sat at a desk in the middle of the state to look through old YouTube videos of his most embarrassing moments.

The random moment included Bieber watching himself fall from stage, walk into a glass door as a teenager, and also get confrontational with paparazzi.

He also played the hilarious 'deez nuts' meme for his audience, which was met with a wave of laughter.

Amongst all of this, he did one other thing that wouldn’t typically be expected to happen at Coachella.

Bieber asked fans at home to 'help me with the songs tonight' by picking their 'favourites' as it turns out he had been live streaming the performance on stage the whole time.

To this, people were left battling it out online about whether or not this made for a good performance, or was simply bizarre and terrible.

One person wrote: “literally justin bieber brought a laptop to coachella with the youtube chat and his fans are deciding the SONGS.”

Another said: “100,000 people paid to watch a man browse his own channel.”

A user called his set the ‘worst’ performance at the California event, writing: “Justin Bieber did the impossible … he managed to dethrone Katseye with the worst coachella performance of all time.”

People had been giving the all-girl group a hard time until Bieber’s set, calling out their choreography a ‘mess’.

A commenter offered up a review of all the wrongdoings Bieber apparently made during his set: “I can’t believe that this is a headliner this is just a mess no good production, horrible visuals, no outfit changes, no backup dancers and performing khia songs who made him headline.”

But not everyone felt that way as many gave him credit for having stepped away from the limelight to work on himself, after fans had been concerned about his health for the last few years due to his haggard appearance in paparazzi images and strange Instagram posts.

“He literally hasn’t performed in years due to illness and extreme mental distress. The fact he is out performing and giving us incredible vocals is all we wanted and all that’s needed. It’s incredible. If you want theatrics go to the circus,” one person wrote.

Another said: “Oh no you didn’t understand nothinggg!!! For THE justin Bieber to be fully himself, intimate and happy, it is everything. For fans to like ‘hang out with him’ is goooolldddd.”
