Sam Fender was forced to halt his Leeds Festival performance after a medical emergency in the crowd.

The Newcastle legend performed the headliner slot at Reading and Leeds Festival this weekend, in a ‘dream come true’ performance.

Even after his iconic 2022 Glastonbury set, Fender still called this gig ‘unfathomable’, after attending the weekend himself as a teen.

And on both nights, he of course banged out tunes like ‘Seventeen Going Under’ and ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ to mega, hyped-up crowds.

Unsurprisingly, the crowds were prepping up for Fender’s mosh pits for his more up-beat hits.

But the 29-year-old did have to stop the music momentarily to look out for his fans.

The northern lad spotted one festival-goer in need of medical assistance in the mosh pit and said on the mic: “We need some help over here, let’s stop.”

Fender addressed the fan directly as he asked: “You ok? We need help over here, we’re going to have to calm down.”

A source at the festival at Bramham Park told the Mirror: “We’re not sure what happened but Sam acted very quickly and made sure that nothing happened until the medics and security got the fan out of the crowd."

The Geordie star checked in on his fans multiple times throughout the night, telling them: “Does someone need to get out? Can youse make a pathway to get them out?”

And in a moment that saw the screens go off temporarily, he asked: “Yas getting help? Does somebody need to get in there? What’s the craic? We need to clear a path.”

The ‘Getting Started singer’ posted a thanks to Instagram yesterday (26 August) as he recalled his own experience of Leeds Festival at 18 years old.

In a somewhat typical tale, Fender told of his tent getting set on fire and also hilariously wrote: “Me and Dean launched hotdogs out of tent poles at groups of lads chanting ‘Yorkshire’ just for a bit of fun, and kept up the long standing tradition of northern rivalry between anyone who doesn’t live within ten square miles of you.”

Looking back on his music journey to now headlining Reading and Leeds, he said: “To headline was unfathomable, me and the lads have always felt more comfortable as the underdogs, we’ve been the underdogs for 7 years - from our first show in Ullapool in Scotland, in that beat up van with doors that didn’t open, all the way to this weekend.

“The imposter syndrome is real, but I suppose that means it’s actually happening.”
