Shakira appears to take dig at Gerard Piqué with Nanny reference in new video

Shakira appears to take dig at Gerard Piqué with Nanny reference in new video

The star's latest video spotlights her former nanny

Shakira has put her nanny centre-stage in her latest music video for the track 'El Jefe'.

Now, unless you're clued up on the context, that may read as slightly bizarre to you so, in case you've been living under a rock for the past year, here's the rundown.

Back in June 2022, Shakira publicly announced her split from Piqué of over 10 years.

A statement from the Grammy award-winning 'Wake Waka' singer's agency reads: "We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy.

"Thank you for your understanding."

Shakira, 46, and the Spanish footballer, 36, had been together since 2010 and have two sons together – Milan and Sasha.

Milan was born in January 2013, while the parents welcomed Sasha exactly two years later in January 2015.

Although they were together for 11 years, the former couple never actually married.

Since they went their separate ways, Piqué and Shakira have not exactly been on good terms, with the former Barcelona footballer officially starting a new relationship with 24-year-old Clara Chia Marti, which was made public via Instagram back in January.

That came after rumours of the breakup happening due to Piqué cheating on Shakira, though that was never confirmed by either party.

However, Shakira's latest music video for 'El Jefe' with Fuerza Regida features the surprising cameo of the children’s longtime nanny, whom the ex-pro footballer reportedly fired for alerting the singer to his alleged cheating.

The video, which was released to eager fans last week (20 September), saw the 'Hips Don't Lie' star seemingly take a dig at Piqué.

As the music video comes to an end, the camera zooms into the face of Lili Melgar - who was allegedly the nanny that was fired by Piqué.

According to a translation by Today, lyrics elsewhere in the song read: "Lili Melgar / This song is for you, they didn’t compensate you."

Shakira has since left Barcelona, where she once resided with Piqué for many years, to start a new life with her children in Miami.

Back in April, the singer took to social media to announce she would be starting a 'new chapter'.

"I established myself in Barcelona to give my kids stability, the same one we are now looking for in another corner of the world alongside my family, friends and the sea," she shared.

"Today we start a new chapter in search of their happiness."

Shakira added: "Thank you to everyone that surfed with me in the Barcelona waves, the city in which I learned that friendship is longer than love. Thanks to everyone that helped me, dried my tears, inspired me and made me grow.

"Thanks to all my Spanish fans that gave me their loyalty and love. For you guys, it’s only a see you later and like my father said many times, we’ll see you on the curves."
