Sydney band opens up on whether working behind the scenes in the music industry actually helps artists

A pop-punk Sydney duo has lifted the curtain on the idea that working behind the scenes in the music industry can actually help artists progress their career.

Bianca and Max make up duo The Admired, and, despite being only three songs into their career, have a deep understanding of how the music industry works and operates, thanks to Bianca’s day job working in the music industry.

But, despite what some may think, Bianca says that working in the industry hasn’t hindered her career, but it hasn’t been an open pathway to success either. Instead, she’s used it as another tool in her musical belt.

“I started working behind the scenes when I was about 19,” Bianca says in the latest episode of MUSICBible,” LADBible Australia’s podcast showcasing the best and brightest in Aussie music.

“I just thought, “Doing the band thing is not for me. I'll be behind the scenes’. And I've been working in and amongst it adjacently for nearly 10 years now. I think it has definitely shaped my artistry because it's shaped my experience of being in a band. The reason I wanted to start a band is because I learned how it all works.”

On top of that, Bianca says that she actually loves the music industry, contrary to what is to be expected of ‘punk’ artists.

“I have a deep love and appreciation for the industry and a lot of my favourite artists are artists who use the industry to their advantage. Not to sound super unpunk or whatever, but the industry is an instrument.”

The Admired are the guests on the latest episode of MUSICBible. Outside of their thoughts on the relationship between art and the industry, the duo also opened up on the country’s pop-punk scene, where tall people belong at concerts and what makes them happier than anything in the world.
