Wednesday star Jenna Ortega has thanked fans for their support of the series after it officially got renewed for a second season.

Prepare to hear Gomez Addams spout a whole new series of nicknames for his daughter because that's right, my little deathtraps, Ortega is returning to the role of Wednesday and heading back to Nevermore Academy.

Netflix confirmed the news with a teaser yesterday (6 January), which gave fans a look back at the huntings and hauntings of season one and acknowledged the success of the series with fans celebrating it across the globe.

Ortega featured in the clip as Wednesday described being 'mimicked across the internet millions of times' for her iconic routine at the school dance, and while her character described it as 'pure torture', that's really a dream come true for someone who loves all things morbid.

"Thank you," Wednesday said, smiling at the camera.

The series quickly became one of the most successful ever released on Netflix following its arrival in November, and it now sits in second place on the Most Popular (English) TV list with 1.237 billion hours viewed within the first 28 days of its release.

Wednesday is really very happy about the show's return.

More than 182 million households have watched Wednesday since its arrival, and within three weeks it joined Stranger Things 4 and Squid Game as the third title to pass one billion hours of viewing in 28 days.

After the second series was announced yesterday, Ortega took to Twitter to thank fans for watching the show and pushing for more episodes.

"Thanks to everyone who made this upcoming season possible," she wrote. "This has all been pretty surreal."

In an interview with Tudum, the creators and showrunners of Wednesday, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, commented: “It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world. Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two.

"We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”

Ortega isn't the only cast member celebrating the return of Wednesday, with Percy White, who plays Xavier, sharing a picture on Instagram with the caption: "Season 2 cheers."

Catherine Zeta Jones, aka Morticia Addams, also shared the clip and wrote on Instagram: "So there you have it!!!! The best news! I mean the bestest best news. WEDNESDAY!!!!!! P.S. Wednesday nearly smiled…it’s that good."

Netflix hasn't yet revealed exactly when we'll next see Wednesday playing the cello or hanging out at grave sites, but hopefully it won't be too long a wait.
