Seriously violent British crime drama labelled ‘better than Peaky Blinders’ now available to binge on Netflix

Peaky Blinders fans need to give Gangs of London a watch if they haven't done so already

Gangs of London (Sky) fans will be delighted to know that Netflix has added the seriously violent series to their long catalogue of TV shows.

Dubbed 'better than Peaky Blinders', the crime drama follows the underground world of London, as created by Gareth Evans and Matt Flannery, both known for The Raid franchise.

The show centres around the murder of the head of the Wallace family, Finn Wallace (Colm Meaney), triggering a brutal turf war.

Finn's son, Sean Wallace (played by Peaky Blinders star Joe Cole), sets out to avenge his father's death to maintain control over the family's criminal activities.

Though things get complicated when power-hungry rivals are hell-bent on taking him out.

Elliot Finch (Sope Dirisu), an undercover cop infiltrating the Wallace family, also gets caught up in the chaos.

The rest of the cast consists of Michelle Fairley as Marian Wallace, Paapa Essiedu as Alex Dumani, and Lucian Msamati as Ed Dumani.

Originally based on the 2006 video game, Gangs of London was first broadcast on Sky Atlantic in 2020.

AMC took over for the second season, and in 2022, the show was renewed for a third.

However, amid the hype, some fans have voiced their opinions, declaring it 'better than Peaky Blinders' as one person tweeted: "Peaky Blinders isn't even as dope as Gangs of London. Very drab and pointless storyline. Gangs of London was action-packed, full of intrigue, and had a better cast!"

Another added: "Lol, Gangs of London is better than every season of Peaky Blinders.

"I know you'll argue more but I see no need to respond.

"If you think I'm wrong, then I question your taste in TV shows. Have a nice day."

"Peaky Blinders is actually not bad, but Gangs of London is a better gangster series than Peaky Blinders," a third claimed.

Meanwhile, other viewers are calling it 'one of the best crime/drama series' ever.

"Highly recommend Gangs of London – the best gangster series ever! The special effects are mind-blowing!" one fan penned.

"I love that Gangs of London is pretty much exactly what you’d expect from a TV show directed by the guy who did The Raid, in the best possible way. Turns out the missing ingredient for UK TV drama was insanely hyper-violent action scenes," a second added.

Well, to settle things once and for all, it's worth looking at what Rotten Tomatoes have to say about this.

The critics have given Cillian Murphy's Peaky Blinders a score of 93 percent, while Gangs of London comes in with a very respectable 86 percent score, at the time of writing.

If you want to come to your own conclusion though, the two seasons of Gangs of London are available to stream on Netflix now.

Gangs of London is also available to stream on Sky and streaming service NOW.
