Netflix has confirmed that Liam Payne will be making his first ever posthumous TV appearance following his death at the age of 31.

Former One Direction star Payne passed away after falling from a third floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 16 October.

The singer's cause of death was later confirmed as 'polytrauma' during an inquest Buckinghamshire Coroner’s Court in December.

In the months leading up to his death Payne had signed on to be part of a new Netflix musical reality series alongside Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland. Titled Building The Band, the series would see Payne, Scherzinger and Rowland work as judges and in order to create the 'next great pop group'.

Following Payne's tragic passing the future of the series was thrown into doubt, however Netflix has now confirmed the series will air during a teaser of TV and film content arriving in 2025.

The streamer is yet to confirm a release date for the series.

What is Netflix's Building the Band about?

According to Netflix, the series will follow a group of aspiring singers who are looking to make it big as part of a band.

However the series will differ from other talent shows as the contestants won't meet face-to-face but instead 'find their perfect bandmates based on compatibility, connection, and, most importantly, merit' similar to established series Love Is Blind.

Payne and former Destiny's Child singer Rowland will be guest judges while former Backstreet Boys singer AJ McLean had also signed on to the series as a host.

Scherzinger will be the show's head judge and mentor, The Pussycat Dolls singer had previously served as a judge on The X Factor during the season which Payne auditioned as a solo artist and was later grouped into One Direction alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson.

Rowland had previously spoken about what it was like to work with Payne during an interview last August, telling People: "Liam is absolutely hilarious. I didn't know how funny he was, so I'm getting to know him, and he is so cool."

Meanwhile Liam's father Geoff Payne was recently sued for £8.1 million by Roger Nores, a late friend of his son who was charged in relation to his death.

Nores was previously one of the five people charged over Payne's death, with Argentinian prosecutors claiming the singer had been 'abandoned' prior to his death.

In response to the allegations, Nores accused Geoff of providing 'false' information to authorities in Argentina which 'contained material omissions, and many parts were not based on personal knowledge'.
