A new documentary about the Titan submersible disaster, fittingly named Titan, is coming to Netflix.

Contact was lost with the Titan on 18 June 2023 during a dive down to the wreckage of the Titanic, and all five people on board including the submersible's owner Stockton Rush died.

In the immediate aftermath, there were search efforts launched in the hopes that they may simply be trapped underwater, but search efforts instead found debris and suspected human remains.

Since the disaster, there have been many revelations, plenty of them focusing on safety concerns raised with Stockton Rush which the OceanGate CEO dismissed, and a documentary featuring a 'banging noise' which gave some hope to those searching that the five inside the Titan might still be alive and attempting to communicate.

Now, the new upcoming Netflix documentary Titan aims to look into Stockton Rush, the man who sits at the centre of this tragedy that claimed five lives including his own.

This man who built this unsafe sub and went down in it himself, who was warned multiple times that his submersible wasn't safe enough, will be examined in the Netflix documentary.

Speaking about the upcoming documentary, director Mark Monroe said that he hopes Titan will answer some of the burning questions people may still have over the disaster.

"When the Titan submersible went missing, I was horrified and mesmerized by the 24/7 news coverage and global social commentary - just like the rest of the world.

"There was no context for what could have happened to those onboard, and the only touchpoint was the Titanic, a story that’s now become a grim fairy tale.

"The more I dug into this terrible tragedy, the more intrigued I became about how this could have ever happened in the first place, and who exactly was the man who built and then went down with this ship.

"We hope that this film can help provide answers to these very questions."

The Titan disaster itself raised all sorts of questions as so many wanted to know exactly what had happened to the sub and those who died in it, as well as how a vessel this dangerous was able to operate despite so many raising concerns over it.

At the heart of all those burning issues is Stockton Rush, and Titan seems set on shedding more light on him.

Titan will release on Netflix later this year.
