Devastating update on one of Netflix's biggest ever shows ahead of new season

Nothing good lasts forever, but it doesn't make the ending any easier to deal with.

And people are finding out just how hard permanent goodbyes can be after the star of one of Netflix's biggest ever shows served us a reminder that the new season will also be its last.

We have already bid farewell to the likes of 3 Body Problem, Umbrella Academy and Vikings: Valhalla so far this year, so you'd think the streaming service might cut us a bit of a break.

But no, our comfort shows are still being axed thick and fast.

This week, it's the reminder that the plug is being pulled on the hit psychological thriller series You which has really caused a fuss among social media users, as filming for the last season has officially wrapped.

Although the show's executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter warned us that they 'always conceived it as a five season journey', it's still an extremely tough pill to swallow for fans.

Which is why thousands of people have flooded the comment section of Penn Badgley's latest TikTok post with their thoughts and feelings about him putting the notorious serial killer Joe Goldberg to bed, once and for all.

The actor, 37, shared a comical clip of him taking part in the popular 'demure' trend, while also giving his followers a long-awaited update on the fifth and final season of You as he documented his last day of filming it.

And although it was all very amusing, the fact that he captioned the post, 'That's a wrap on Joe Goldberg,' made the culmination of You feel all a bit too real for fans.

In the video, Badgley is seen in the back of a car clutching several hefty bags as he says: "You see how I show up to work? Very demure, very mindful."

He then continued by saying: "I don't really do too much when I'm at work. I'm very mindful."

Hilariously, the camera then cut to show him screaming as he thumps the walls of Joe Goldberg's trademark glass cage where he traps all of his victims - so spoiler alert, it will most likely be making an appearance in season five.

Badgley then added in the tongue-in-cheek video: "Playing a romantic icon for five seasons, I'm very modest, I'm very mindful. You see my shirt? Show 'em the shoulders, not the boulders."

Despite being very entertained by the Gossip Girl star's humour, people were left struggling to come to terms with the fact that filming for You has officially wrapped and that Joe Goldberg will never love - or kill - again.

Well...after season five, that is.

One person commented: "I am so sad this is the last season of You."

Another wrote: "PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME SAY GOODBYE."

A third added: "Makes me sad that the show is coming to an end. Thank you for playing Joe Goldberg, Penn Badgley."

While a fourth said: "You will always be Joe Goldberg, not even the end of the series can change that."

In the fifth season of the series You - which first premiered back in 2018 - fans should expect to see the usual barrage of romance with a side of murder that we all know and love, as well as a few new faces.

Viewers will be introduced to Joe Goldberg's new extended family - with Griffin Matthews playing the brother of Joe’s new wife Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) and Anna Camp starring as both of her identical twin sisters.

Madeline Brewer has been cast as a 'young woman who makes Joe reconsider his new life', while Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega is set to make an return to You after her role in season two of the show.

One thing's for sure, anyway - this anti-hero will be going out with a bang.
