New Netflix Series Is One Of The Worst Rated In History

Viewers have described the show as 'garbage' after it arrived in July

A new Netflix series has not only become one of the streamer's lowest-rated shows on IMDb, but also falls among some of the lowest rated shows in TV history.

With titles like Stranger Things and Girl In The Picture successfully taking the world by storm, it's safe to say that Netflix is very good at making excellent content, but the release of the series Resident Evil proves not everything can be a winner.

Based on the survival horror video game franchise of the same name, the series sees Lance Reddick take on the role of Albert Wesker, with both Ella Balinska and Tamara Smart playing his daughter, Jade, while Adeline Rudolph and Siena Agudong take on the role of Billie.

All eight episodes of Resident Evil arrived on Netflix yesterday (14 July), giving viewers the chance to at least watch a few episodes - or binge the series in its entirety - before sharing their thoughts.

Unfortunately, their thoughts aren't great. The show has received an Audience Score of just 26 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, while on IMDb the series has been rated a measly 3.4/10, based on average ratings from 4,042 IMDb users.

Earlier this year, ScreenRant listed the 15 worst shows on Netflix according to IMDb, at which point the series Racket Boys took the top (or bottom) spot with a rating of just 1.9/10. Now, however, Racket Boys has managed to overtake Resident Evil, with a current score of 4.0.

When it comes to TV shows in general, a list of the lowest-rated TV shows on IMDb included shows rated from as low as 1.3/10 to 4.4/10. Though the shows included on that list are now a couple of years old, it's clear Resident Evil's ranking of 3.4 has well and truly made the cut.

The average score comes after the majority of users (42.5 percent) ranked the show just 1/10, followed by 10.1 percent who rated it 2/10. Its rating was pulled up slightly by the 14.7 percent of users who gave it a shining 10/10, but it evidently wasn't enough to drag it from its current depths.

Though the series has received a more positive critics' rating of 60 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, it just doesn't seem to have captivated the masses as one review on Twitter describes it as a 'dumpster fire', while another reads: "Resident Evil on Netflix may be the most boring, pointless garbage I've seen all year, with absolutely nothing in common with its source material. Its so bad, it makes the Milla Jovovich movies look like absolute works of art in comparison."

These ratings indicate Resident Evil might not be one of Netflix's best creations, but there's still hope yet. For reference, Keeping Up With The Kardashians has an IMDb rating of just 2.7, and that had loads of fans - make of that what you will.

In the interests of balance, though, The Guardian's Lucy Mangan was much more enthusiastic in her four-star review, adding: "You will binge-watch like you have never binge-watched before... you will enjoy yourself so freaking much." So who knows? Maybe you'll like it after all.
