Noel Gallagher and his wife Sara MacDonald’s have announced that they are set to divorce after 22 years together.

The Oasis and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds musician released a statement today confirming the split and stating that the pair’s children ‘remain their priority’.

The couple were married in 2011, but have been together for much longer, having met when Noel was still married to music executive Meg Matthews back in 2000.

Gallagher divorced from Matthews in January 2001, starting a relationship with publicist MacDonald afterwards.

The pair eventually married in June 2011 and have two children together, Donovan and Sonny MacDonald Gallagher, who were born in 2007 and 2010 respectively.

Gallagher also has another daughter called Anaïs with Matthews.

A representative for the couple released a statement that said: “Noel and Sara will together continue to look after their children who remain their priority.

"Noel and Sara ask the media to respect their privacy and that of our family at this time."

Noel recently announced that he is to release new music, sharing a video yesterday showcasing the new material several hours before the divorce announcement.

In that short video, Gallagher could be seen tracking instruments and music for the new stuff, although little else is known.

Well, there is the small detail that the tweet put out by Noel featured the date 17/01/23 in it, so we can pretty much assume that there is set to be an announcement around that time.

Along with the High Flying Birds, Gallagher is set to headline a huge show in his hometown of Manchester this summer in Wythenshawe Park.

It represents the High Flying Birds’ first headlining show since 2019 and is set to be the first major gig to take place in the park.

The show will take place on August 26 this year, featuring support from Future Islands and Primal Scream.

During his Oasis days, Noel was known for his hard-living and partying attitude to life, but he recently gave an interview in which he detailed the moment that he knew he’d had enough.

Speaking on the Pub Talk podcast with Ray Parlour and Alan Brazil, he said: “I remember it vividly – it was the day that I quit cocaine.

“It was during the [football] World Cup, France ’98.

“France were playing Germany it was half-time and we’d had a huge party the night before and I’d kinda stumbled out of bed in the afternoon.

“The first thing I did was went to the fridge and got a can of Red Stripe – I was smoking at the time – and lit a cig. My whole world just fell in.

“I just had a freak out and I couldn’t breathe and all of that kind of thing. From that day forward I quit.”
