Jordan Peele will return this summer to debut his third directorial work, the much-anticipated science fiction horror Nope, distributed by Universal Pictures.

Prone to keeping his storylines under wraps prior to release, fans so far know little about the movie’s plot, beyond its extra-terrestrial focus. Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer unite to play Californian ranchers Jim and Jill Haywood, who, along with the residents of their isolated town, witness a mysterious and unexplainable event.

Peele established himself as the director-to-watch with Get Out (2017), starring Kaluuya alongside Allison Williams and Bradley Whitford, which received critical acclaim for its poignant discussion of race relations in America. The new film, succeeding Peele’s other work like BlacKkKlansman (2018) and 2019’s Us, will surely be used as a similar medium for social commentary.

When is Nope coming out?

Viewers will be able to watch Nope in UK cinemas from 22 July 2022. For those wishing to watch from home, the film is set to stream on Peacock, a service available to Sky and NOW TV customers, as early as 45 days after its theatrical release.

Nope trailer:

A full trailer for Nope debuted online hours before the 56th Super Bowl on 13 February 2022. The trailer introduces audiences to Haywood Ranch, the ‘only black-owned horse trainers in Hollywood’.

Kaluuya poses the question ‘What is a bad miracle?’, as their farm is shrouded in darkness and chaos unfolds following the appearance of mysterious hovering objects. Whilst little is given away of the movie’s plot, spine-chilling shots of destruction and an unidentifiable claw promise serious moments of horror.

Who is in the cast of Nope?

Peele once again calls on British actor Daniel Kaluuya to star as Jim Haywood, who he has previously worked with on Get Out. He will be joined by Keke Palmer, portraying Jim’s wife Jill Haywood, The Walking Dead’s Steven Yuen, and Barbie Ferreira, best known for her appearance as Kat on HBO’s Euphoria.

The full cast list includes:

  • Daniel Kaluuya as Jim Haywood
  • Keke Palmer as Jill Haywood
  • Steven Yuen as Brian
  • Michael Wincott as Craig
  • Barbie Ferreira as Danielle
  • Donna Mills as Bonnie Clayton
  • Jennifer Lafleur as Phyllis
  • Andrew Patrick Ralston as Tom
  • Keith David as Pops Haywood
