Paul Rudd is asked to adopt dog that looks like him

The actor has been advised to adopt a furry look-alike

A load of celebrities have some pretty similar-looking doppelgängers and while some definitely strike more of a resemblance than others, most of them are at least human.

Well, a Tennessee animal shelter has reached out to none other than Paul Rudd to adopt an animal that supposedly looks exactly like him.

The shelter even went as far as to rename the pooch based on the uncanny resemblance in hopes that the award-winning actor would see his own likeness in the dog.

Now, there's always been a saying that dogs tend to look like their owners - or that maybe owners start looking like their dogs over the years.

But it seems as if Hollywood icon Rudd already has has his own furry lookalike out there.

The dog in question has been pointed out by the Collierville Animal Shelter in Tennessee, US - a shelter that allows prospective pet owners to adopt an animal in need and personally give them a 'second chance at life'.

One particular pooch, however, has received some extra-special attention after the shelter realised just why he looked so familiar.

The shelter believes that Waffle House - a male, 65-pound Australian Shepherd mix - looks exactly like Paul Rudd, 53, so much so that they even renamed the dog 'Paul Ruff'.

Ruff's official adoption page explains that the two share more in common than just their looks.

It reads: "Like Mr. Rudd, I'm a gentle, easy-going fella, the kind of guy you want to be your neighbour, best friend, or life long companion. Maybe I really am the canine version of Paul!"

The Town of Collierville's official Twitter page reached out to the Ant-Man star with a slightly unusual request following the discovery.

Accompanied by a compilation of photos showing both Rudd and Ruff's similar facial expressions, they tweeted: "While making love connections between pets and people today, we discovered one of our dogs is meant to be with Paul Rudd."

"We have nicknamed him Pawl Ruff," it continued.

While Rudd himself didn't have a Twitter handle for the page to reach out to directly, they went ahead and tagged the official Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania account - which has over 1.4 million followers - in a hopes to swing Rudd's attention their way.

The tweet concluded: "And honestly, what is more heroic than adopting a shelter pet?"

Dozens flooded into the comments to share their reactions to the shelter's request.

"Sending Pawl Ruff positive vibes so he finds a forever home," tweeted one person.

A second chimed in with: "Both of your facial expressions match to a tee. I’m sure you have a lot in common, too."

"C'mon, Paul. Adopt your twin," a third person added, "separated at birth, it's time for you reunite. Pawl Ruff needs you, and you need Pawl Ruff to complete yourself."

Not a bad doppelgänger to have at all.

Since posting the adoption call-out, the shelter has received a stack of adoption applications for the pooch yet none of those applications belong to Ant-Man himself.
