People Are Criticising Jennifer Lopez For Taking Ben Affleck’s Last Name

Jennifer Lynn Lopez is now legally known as Jennifer Lynn Affleck after marrying Ben Affleck in Las Vegas over the weekend.

Court documents show the singer opted to take her husband's last name after applying for a marriage license in Clark County, Nevada.

JLo, who should probably be now referred to as JFleck, says the ceremony was something she had 'dreamed of long ago'.

While the singer is no doubt on cloud nine following the wedding at the Little White Chapel, she's faced some criticism from her fans.

I wouldn't have had her change her last name to mine, I would've changed my last name to Lopez. Her loss!

Some fans believe Jennifer Lopez's name is more iconic than Ben Affleck's, while others hit out at the outdated marriage stereotype of taking the husband's family name.

However, it appears JFleck has planned this for nearly two decades.

Back in 2003, as part of Ben & Jen: A Dateline Special, Lopez explained how during their first engagement she decided how she wanted to play the name game.

Reporter Pat O'Brien asked her: "A week after you're married, what will your name be?" 

She replied: "I think I'm going to stay with Jennifer Lopez, but my name will be Jennifer Affleck, obviously." 

The clip has resurfaced now that news of her wedding and name change have been revealed to the public.

This indicates that she'll always want to be known as Jennifer Lopez to the world, even if a piece of paper says she's actually Jennifer Affleck.

In an email to her followers after the wedding details went public, JFleck wrote: "Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient."

She added: "Stick around long enough and maybe you'll find the best moment of your life in a drive through in Las Vegas at 12:30 in the morning in the tunnel of love drive through with your kids and the one you’ll spend forever with."

Her white wedding dress was reportedly from an 'old movie' while Affleck's white jacket was from his 'closet'.

She said they stood in line for their marriage license with four other couples at the Little White Chapel.

“They were right when they said, ‘all you need is love’," she wrote in her blog post.

"We are so grateful to have that in abundance, a new wonderful family of five amazing children, and a life that we have never had more reason to look forward to."
