Viewers are ‘hooked’ on Netflix’s new vikings series, with some fans branding it ‘f***ing incredible' - you can see a trailer for the show here:

Vikings: Valhalla, which landed on Netflix last month, is a sequel to Vikings and centres on some of the most famous Norsemen in history, including Leif Erikson, Freydís Eiríksdóttir, Harald Hardrada and the Norman King and Viking descendent William the Conqueror.

A synopsis from Netflix says: “In this sequel to Vikings, a hundred years have passed and a new generation of legendary heroes arises to forge its own destiny – and make history.”

Michael Hirst, creator of the original series, returns as executive producer for the sequel.

Speaking ahead of its release Hirst said: "I am beyond excited that we are announcing the continuation of our Vikings saga.

Netflix

"I know that the millions of our fans across the globe will be thrilled by the belief being shown in our show by MGM and Netflix.

"Jeb Stuart, a truly wonderful writer, will bring new storylines and a powerful visceral vision to stories about some of the most famous Vikings known to history."

And it certainly hasn’t disappointed - the show was ranked number one the week it premiered and was streamed for an incredible 194 million hours in its first nine days.

Meanwhile, fans have been flocking to social media to heap praise on the show.

One fan said: “The best show on television right now is Vikings: Valhalla. I will be taking no questions at this time.”

Another wrote: “Vikings: Valhalla on Netflix is f***ing incredible.” Praise doesn’t get much better than that, surely?

A third person said: “Did nothing but watch Vikings: Valhalla the whole day. And I finished everything already. I need the second season to come out soon. I’m hooked.”

While another commented: “Vikings: Valhalla was so good. Best series I’ve seen in a while but season two can come now thanks.”

Netflix

And it seems as though fans are in luck, because Netflix has already snapped the show up for two more seasons.

Confirming the good news, showrunner Stuart said: "Fans of Valhalla - THANK YOU to the millions of you who have watched (and rewatched!) season one. The numbers have been mind-boggling and beyond my wildest expectations.

"I’m thrilled to be able to confirm that we wrapped and are already editing season two and that production will start soon on season three.

“While the storylines for Leif, Freydis, Harald, Olaf, Canute and the rest of our amazing cast are secret, I can say without hesitation that their journeys will be even more epic than what you've seen so far. SKÅL!!!"

Vikings: Valhalla is available to steam on Netflix right now.
