PewDiePie’s one-eyed 17-year-old pug named Maya has sadly died

The YouTube content creator made the heartbreaking announcement with a touching social media tribute

PewDiePie’s adorable little pug Maya has passed away at 17 years of age.

The YouTube creator made the sad announcement while sharing a heartwarming tribute via Instagram.

He wrote: "Said farewell to my little Maya this morning.. 17 years is a long time for a pug, but no time in the world would've ever been enough.

"I didn't think I could love a dog as much as I loved her."

The 33-year-old added: "Thank you for all the wonderful time we got to spend with you. Thank you for always making my days brighter. Thank you for bringing me closer to Marzia. I will miss you so much and I already do. You will always be in my heart Maya.”

As the tiny pooch officially earned her doggy angel wings, many expressed condolences to the content creator.

One person wrote: "Sorry to hear mate, she had a big life for a little pup."

Another shared: "Goodbye Maya, you always hold a special place in our hearts."

While a third person commented: "We all understand if you want to take some time off of YouTube to grieve. We are all here for you."

They added: "Know that as your loyal fans that we will support you through any grievances you may encounter in the distant future and now.”

PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, had opened up about the pug’s ongoing health struggles as she began suffering from dementia this year and previously lost one of her eyes.

Kjellberg said in a vlog earlier this year: "We’ll see how she develops.

"But Maya has the 'dementies'. She’s so old. Her mind is kind of declining a bit."

He added: "Sorry I’m saying it in front of everyone."

It seems to have been a tumultuous year for the content creator, to say the least.

Last month, the Swede lost his title for world’s most subscribed YouTuber when he was overtaken by MrBeast.

MrBeast, real name Jimmy Donaldson, has a massive 122 million followers on the video platform.

PewPieDie is still going strong at 111 million subscribers, though.

While it remains unknown who will continue to reign, one thing remains certain - we’re going to miss the heck out of that little pug, with her sweet face and one, big, beautiful eye when we log on to get our daily dose of social content.
