House of the Dragon: People are praising Rhaenyra as one of the best female characters in TV

As our new favourite series continues, House of the Dragon fans are calling Rhaenyra Targaryen one of the best female characters on TV.

We've waited a long time for George R.R Martin's fantastical world to appear back on our screens, and now that it has we couldn't be more thrilled.

Amid the epic storytelling and family feuds, one character has already claimed our hearts – Rhaenyra, played by Emma D'Arcy.

In the new prequel, it's already pretty clear that female characters are front and centre, namely Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and her best friend Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke).

The characters' relationship is at the centre of the season's drama and highlights a divide that leads to the bloodiest civil war the country has seen.

And fans are loving every second of it, with many taking to Twitter to praise Rhaenyra as being one of the 'best female protagonists put on screen'.

So, what is it about the character that's so incredible? Well, as Twitter users aptly note, she's a f***ing badass.

Seriously, who else could lie to basically every other character, come off unscathed, and still find time to get Otto fired?

Morally, she's not your typical hero, but that doesn't stop people from rooting for her and her super chaotic ways, as one Twitter user said: "I support Rhaenyra's rights but most importantly I support her wrongs."

While another added: "rhaenyra gotta be one of the best female characters ive seen in a fantasy show in a hot minute. she’s kind but knows when to be mean, sticks up for herself [...] reads people like a book and knows just when to pounce on them. shes so real [sic]."

Another seconded the comment, saying: "episode 4 is a vital hour of character development that the writing team has succeeded in brilliantly. Some relationships progress whilst others falter. Rhaenyra is quickly becoming one of the strongest and best female protagonists put on screen. Rating: 8.5/10."

A fourth started listing all the stunts she's pulled: "Rhaenyra this episode: lied to literally everyone, got away with it, escaped and went to a brothel with Daemon, (almost ?) f***ed Daemon, f***ed Criston Cole, lied to Alicent, got Otto Hightower fired QUEEN."

She also comes out with some killer speeches: "Were I born a man, I could bed whomever I wanted. I could father a dozen bastards, and no one in your court would blink an eye."

Another simply said: "Rhaenyra is SO F***ING BADASS AND I LOVE HER WITH ALL MY HEART BYE"
