Riverdale season 7 Netflix release date, cast and plot

Riverdale has a loyal army of fans who are upset at the show’s recent cancellation, and the news that the seven series of the teen drama will be the last.

There was a supernatural twist at the end of season six, and viewers are eager to find out what’s in store next for the Netflix show, and how it will all end.

One of the stars, Cole Sprouse said in an interview that the cast were already prepared to "wrap it up with a bow” to say goodbye.

Earlier this year, CW president Mark Pedowitz said:

"I am a big believer in attempting to give series that have had long runs an appropriate sendoff. We had a long conversation with Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] yesterday, who is thrilled by this news, and we will treat the show in the manner it deserves…. We want to make sure it goes out the right way. I think they, too, felt that seven years is the right amount. As a fan myself, I do want to do what is right for the show."

When is Riverdale season 7 coming out?

No official release date has been given yet, however fans think they’ve narrowed it down to a possible timeframe. Apart from the first season and season five (delayed due to the pandemic) every other season has started in October or November.

So unless anything major happens to delay it, fans think the series will start in October or November 2022.

Who is in the cast of Riverdale season 7?

With this being the last season, fans are hoping some familiar faces will make a return to say goodbye.

In an interview, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said: "My hope is that season seven, which is our swan song, we see people we haven’t seen return to Riverdale in good, juicy story arcs… a celebration and a reunion for everyone that's been a part of Riverdale, and worked so hard to make the show as special as it was.

“You know, again, a million things to figure out, but that’s my hope, is that people we haven’t seen come back, more than anything."

In season six, Kiernan Shipka played Sabrina the Teenage Witch for several cameos, and fans hope she’ll come back for more in season 7, along with a much-loved father figure.

Jughead’s dad, FP, played by Skeet Ulrich is a fan favourite and show runners have said they would love him back, too.

One of the stars of the series, Lili Reinhart, has recently debuted in her first film for Netflix.

What will happen in season 7 of Riverdale?

The ending of season six saw a time shift take place, with the cast now finding themselves in the 1950s, with many characters having lost their memory of what went on before with an immortal sorcerer.

There are some popular pairings that will be put to the test, and characters including Kevin and Toni are now discovering their sexuality in a far less tolerant time period. All of the characters gained superpowers in season 6, and there was even a musical showdown with a comet. So really, season 7 is anyone’s guess.
