Roger Moore’s son rips into the idea of an American actor being the next James Bond

Roger Moore’s son rips into the idea of an American actor being the next James Bond

He also dismissed the idea that the future of Bond is female.

The son of iconic James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore has insisted that 007 should never be played by an actor who hails from across the pond.

In an interview with The Express, Geoffrey 'Jaffa' Moore made his feelings on the matter crystal clear.

"I mean, there’s a lot of talent out there, but he has to be English," the 56-year-old said.

"It’s ridiculous to consider Bond being an American. You know, even if he’s got a flawless accent, he’s got to be British. It is an English franchise."

Jaffa added: "It’s butterscotch and red telephone boxes and 'His Majesty the King'."

Jaffa's father, Sir Roger Moore, was the third actor to portray the iconic British secret agent and played him in seven feature films between 1973 and 1985.

He went down in history as one of the best actors ever to fill 007's iconic shoes.

Most recently, Bond was portrayed on screen by British actor Daniel Craig.

Since Craig announced that he’d be hanging up the tux, everyone’s had an opinion about who should step up to the plate.

And what gender they should be.

That includes Jaffa Moore, who was more than happy to give The Express his opinion on that matter, revealing a woman as Bond 'would not work'.

"Well, then it’s no longer James Bond," he said.

"I mean, she could be 006, 008, or 009…"

That being said, Lashana Lynch was already given the infamous codename in No Time To Die.

But Jaffa thinks it led to 'confusion' amongst audiences.

"In the last Bond I think this was the confusion. That she [Lashana’s character Nomi] was 007 and then said, 'I’ve got to give it back to Bond. It’s his number'," he said.

"So I think that’s very good. I think they were also testing the waters."

Moore's son, an actor himself, then gave filmmakers a suggestion as to how they could tackle a female version of the iconic spy.

"Maybe there will be a ‘From the filmmakers of James Bond comes Jane or Jemima Bond’ or whatever," Jaffa suggested.

Jaffa added that the role of Bond should 'unfortunately' continue to be played by a man.

But, despite Jaffa's opinions on the character, originally created by British author Ian Fleming, casting as far as we know is at a halt for now.

However, it seems we’ve still a way off any official confirmation, as producer Barbara Broccoli has said there’s not even a script yet – let alone a cast.

Speaking to LADbible on the red carpet at the BAFTA Film Awards in February, Broccoli said that, despite all of the rumours about the next 007, casting hasn’t even begun yet.

So it looks like we will just have to wait and see.
