Seth Rogen and Kristen Wiig are reprising their roles for a Sausage Party sequel series

Seth Rogen and Kristen Wiig are reprising their roles for a Sausage Party sequel series

A large chunk of the original cast are set to reunite for the Prime Video TV show.

Prime Video is cooking up a foodie delight for our TV screens as they give the green light to a Sausage Party series.

Several members of the all-star cast from the 2016 comedy film have signed on for the sequel series, called Sausage Party: Foodtopia.

Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz and Edward Norton are all set to reprise their roles.

Will Forte, Sam Richardson, Natasha Rothwell and Yassir Lester have been added to the cast.

Executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg told The Hollywood Reporter to share their glee in returning to television instead of the silver screen.

"Film used to be the superior art form to television, and we humbly reached the pinnacle of what can be achieved with film in our remarkable opus, Sausage Party," they said in a joint statement.

"But now that film is completely dead and TV is the forever-king of entertainment, we’ve decided to continue the epic adventures of our culinary crew in the soon-to-be-legendary televised masterpiece Sausage Party: Foodtopia."

The dynamic duo added: "It’s got all the heart, double the puns and triple the food-on-food sex. In other words, it’s exactly what the world needs right now."

So basically, the second serving of Sausage Party sounds as wild as you'd hope it to be.

Amazon Studios' head of global television Vernon Sanders echoed Amazon's excitement to have signed the TV follow-up.

"The original Sausage Party was an incredibly hilarious, outrageous, one-of-a-kind entry into the world of animation," he said as per Collider.

"We are thrilled to collaborate again with Seth, Evan and their team at Point Grey, as well as our partners at Annapurna Television and Sony Pictures Television, to offer a new look into this world that will be brought to life so vividly for our global Prime Video customers."

However, there are some glaring omissions from the cast list.

Most notably, James Franco, Salma Hayek, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Paul Rudd were absent from the lineup despite having appeared in the original film.

However, that could change as production continues.

Little is known about the storyline for the TV adaptation, with a statement to The Hollywood Reporter revealing that it 'is being kept firmly under wrappers'.

The eight-course television series is slated for release on Prime Video in 2024.
