Netflix is making Squid Game a reality with a new competition series based on the hit show. Check out the announcement video here:

Squid Game: The Challenge will see 456 players battle it out for $4.56 million (£3.8 million) - the biggest lump sum cash prize in reality TV history.

The series will run for 10 episodes, during which the largest ever reality TV show cast will fight for the huge prize - though unlike the South Korean survival series, competitors who fail challenges presumably won't be executed.

Announcing the exciting news, the streaming giant said: "Netflix is bringing the global phenomenon Squid Game to life with the biggest reality competition series ever, Squid Game: The Challenge.

"With both the largest cast and lump sum cash prize in reality TV history, 456 real players will enter the game in pursuit of a life-changing reward of $4.56 million.

A reality version of the hit Netflix show is on the horizon.

"As they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show - plus surprising new additions - their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them. The stakes are high, but in this game the worst fate is going home empty-handed."

So if you quite like the sound of winning $4.56 million - without the rather weighty attached string of potential death - applications are now open.

It will be shot in the UK and Netflix is looking for English-speaking applicants from anywhere in the world.

"Squid Game took the world by storm with Director Hwang's captivating story and iconic imagery. We're grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment," said Brandon Riegg, Netflix vice president of unscripted and documentary series.

This could be you - sort of.

"Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end."

The dystopian drama - written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk - follows desperate people who are invited to take part in a mysterious and brutal series of games for a massive sum of money.

It dropped on Netflix in September and went on to become the platform's biggest ever show.

You can apply for the new series here.
