Woman on The Chase says she thinks moon landing was fake then contradicts herself seconds later

She stated her controversial view - before the producers made her put her money where her mouth is

A conspiracy theorist on The Chase disregarded her own beliefs to answer a question correctly.

Contestant Laura rocked up on the Aussie version of the quiz show and declared her love for conspiracy theories - which you would think might put her off applying for a show in which you're tested on fact-based questions.

"Aliens, love anything to do with space and all that kind of thing," the mum said.

Host Larry Emdur then asked: "Do you believe that man has walked on the moon?"

To which she replied: "No."

"Absolutely not?" the bemused host asked.

"No I don't, I think that was a conspiracy," Laura said.

With the conspiracy chit chat out of the way, Larry wished Laura 'lots of luck' before ploughing straight into the questions.

She saw dollar signs.

"The first person to set foot on the moon was US astronaut Neil who?" he asked.

Unflinchingly, Laura replied: "Armstrong."

Yep, they stitched her up like a kipper.

It's always intriguing listening to a conspiracy theorist spout their alternative views and trying to decipher just how much they believe them; like, if they were offered a million quid if they could correctly describe the shape of the planet, would they get it right?

Well, it seems the guys on The Chase Down Under decided to put this to the test, and when there was money on the line, Laura was unwavering in her answer.

In her defence though, she would probably say she was just giving the answer she knew they wanted to hear - that's not to say she thinks Armstrong walked on the moon.

She may well not even believe that Armstrong himself ever happened.

Either way, the amusing set-up did not go unnoticed by viewers and has gone viral on social media.

The first question was who was the first man to walk on the moon.

On TikTok, the clip has been liked more than 22,000 times.

Commenting on the video, one person said: "She knew what was needed to be said."

Another added: "She gave up quicker than Liz Truss."

While a third wrote: "How can she say she loves anything to do with space but then say she thinks the moon walking was a conspiracy?"

Meanwhile, on Reddit, someone joked: "She should've answered, actor Neil Armstrong."

While another said: "Her correct answer would have been 'do your own research'."
