The first real trailer for the new Amazon Lord of the Rings series has finally dropped. Check it out for yourself in the video below, because it looks absolutely rad.

Our first look at the hugely expensive and hotly anticipated show, given the full title The Rings of Power came during Super Bowl LVI at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

The show, which Amazon has reportedly ploughed $1 billion into, is set before the events of Peter Jackson’s legendary adaptation of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and is set during the Second Age of Middle Earth, a time that is cloaked in mystery.

Everyone who has seen The Fellowship of the Ring knows that there were more rings made than the ring that Frodo Baggins eventually destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom.

Oh, come on, if you’re crying about spoilers there, the book has been out for decades so have the films.

This new series will tell the tale of how the rings were forged, as well as chronicling the rise of the dark lord Sauron.

It’s being controlled at the top by showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, who have been busy talking up the show.

In a press release, they said: “This is a title that we imagine could live on the spine of a book next to J.R.R. Tolkien’s other classics. The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men,

“Until now, audiences have only seen onscreen the story of the One Ring — but before there was one, there were many…and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all.”

They’ve got plenty to work with, then.

There’s a lot of pressure on them, too.

Given the high expectations and massive expenditure that has gone into making the show, they’ll have to live up to it.

Especially given how widely beloved the films are, and the success of similar fantasy style shows such as Game of Thrones – although many would say that they failed to stick the landing with the final season.

The new show is set to touch down onto Amazon Prime Video on September 2, and will be airing weekly after that.

Honestly, it looks like it’s going to be incredible, so mark your calendar.
